NNGA Divisions

The Regular Series of NNGA events has two divisions: Scratch and Net.

USGA Events, players that earn points in USGA events (see chart) will have the points awarded in their appropriate division. See below

US Senior Open, US Senior Amateur

All USGA points will be awarded at the completion of the tournament proper.

Pacific Coast Amateur, points will be awarded at the completion of the tournament proper.

The Senior Series of NNGA events has three divisions: Blue Senior Scratch, Blue Senior Net (ages 50-59) and Silver Senior Scratch and Net (ages 60+) The Silver division pays one scratch per event the rest is paid net.

The Senior Blue division players have to choose scratch or net division for each event. This is where their points accrue. The division you select will be the only division in which you will receive and accrue points. NOTE: Players are able to change their division at any time and start collecting points in their newly selected division at that date.

Silver Senior Scratch and Net (Over 60) Players eligible for the Silver Senior division have the choice to participate in the Blue or Silver division.  NNGA now
pays one (1) Scratch winner in the Silver division at this time. Scratch points are awarded to the top 5 scratch silver players per event. (see below)  Silver scratch winner will also be awarded for their net finish. 

Points: Below you will find a table of the points you are awarded for each tournament type.

Competitions & Champions: Below is a listing of competitions and champions that are determined by the highest number of points during the specified time period.

 Nevada State Match Play Championship

 Location

  • The North and South shall rotate responsibility for the Match Play Championship. Championship competitions will be conducted by the NNGA and SNGA alternating each year. NNGA will host in even numbered years and the SNGA in odd-numbered years.

 Eligibility:

  • Open to all male members of the NNGA and SNGA.

 Field size: 32 players

 Exempt Players:

  • Semi-finalists from the previous years’ Championship (4)
  • Reigning State Amateur Champion (1)
  • Reigning State Mid Am Champion (1)
  • Reigning State Senior Am Champion (1)
  • Champions from the past five years (4)
  • Up to 3 junior player exemptions based on resumes reviewed and approved by the State Championship Committee (3)
  • Up to 2 State Committee, special invitees based on playing resume approved by the State Championship Committee (2)
  • The remaining 16 players will be split between associations, 8 each, to be determined by however the association shall choose. (Points race, qualifying, tournament winners, etc.)
  • If players are exempt in multiple categories, the additional spots will be added to the association’s selection process
  • Notes
    • All exempt players must submit an entry 45 days prior to the championship
    • Each association has until 30 days prior to the championship to fill their allocated spots.
    • During the last 30 days, all remaining spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.
    • Should an association not fill the allocated positions, then the other association can fill the unfilled spots.

 Nevada State Amateur Championship

 Location

  • The North and South shall rotate responsibility for the Amateur Championship. Championship competitions will be conducted by the NNGA and SNGA alternating each year. NNGA will host in odd-numbered years and the SNGA in even-numbered years.

 Eligibility:

  • Open to all male members of the NNGA and SNGA.

 Field size: 60 players

 Exempt Players:

  • Top 10 players from the previous years’ Championship
  • Reigning State Match Play Champion
  • Reigning State Mid Am Champion
  • Champions from the past five years
  • Up to 4 junior player exemptions based on resumes reviewed and approved by the State Championship Committee
  • Up to 4 State Committee, special invitees based on playing resume approved by the State Championship Committee
  • The remaining 36 players will be split between associations, 18 each, to be determined by however the association shall choose. (Points race, qualifying, tournament winners, etc.)
  • If players are exempt in multiple categories, the additional spots will be added to the association’s selection process
  • Notes
    • All exempt players must submit an entry 45 days prior to the championship.
    • Each association has until 30 days prior to the championship to fill their allocated spots.
    • During the last 30 days, all remaining spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

 Nevada State Net Amateur Championship

 Location

  • The North and South shall rotate responsibility for the championship. Championship competitions will be conducted by the NNGA and SNGA alternating each year. NNGA will host in odd-numbered years and the SNGA in even-numbered years.
  • Notes:
    • The hosting association is urged to schedule this event with two of the rounds occurring during the weekend.
    • At the hosting association's discretion, this event can be scheduled simultaneously with the Nevada State Net Amateur Championship.

 Eligibility:

  • Open to all male members of the NNGA and SNGA.

 Field size: 60 players

 Exempt Players:

  • The 8 match play qualifiers from the previous years’ Championship.
  • The remaining 52 players will be split between associations, 26 each, to be determined by however the association shall choose. (Points race, qualifying, tournament winners, etc.)
  • If players are exempt, the additional spots will be added to the association’s selection process
  • Notes
    • All exempt players must submit an entry 45 days prior to the championship.
    • Each association has until 30 days prior to the championship to fill their allocated spots.
    • During the last 30 days, all remaining spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis

 Nevada State Mid-Amateur Championship

 Location

  • The North and South shall rotate responsibility for the Mid-Amateur Championship. Championship competitions will be conducted by the NNGA and SNGA alternating each year. NNGA will host in odd-numbered years and the SNGA in even-numbered years.
  • Notes:
    • The hosting association is urged to schedule this event with two of the rounds occurring during the weekend.
    • At the hosting association's discretion, this event can be scheduled simultaneously with the Nevada State Net Amateur Championship.

 Eligibility:

  • Open to all male members of the NNGA and SNGA who have reached the age of 25 on or before the first day of competition.
  • Players must have a USGA index of 10.0 or less at time of entry to participate.

 Field size: 40 players

 Exempt Players:

  • Top four players from the previous years’ Championship
  • Champions from the past five years
  • After exemptions the remaining spots will be split between associations, to be determined by however the association shall choose. (Points race, qualifying, tournament winners, etc.)
  • Notes
    • All exempt players must submit an entry 45 days prior to the championship.
    • Each association has until 30 days prior to the championship to fill their allocated spots.
    • During the last 30 days, all remaining spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

Pacific Coast Championship

Scratch

Total of three (3) players qualify. Pacific Coast Points are listed on the website. The final point’s event for qualifying will be the set according to the calendar.  See website for scheduled time and place.

3-Man Team

Scratch

The year of the event the players that will go to the 3 man team are, Winner of the Northern Nevada Amateur, Winner of the Southern Nevada Amateur depending on the rotation year.  The winner of the State Amateur and Winner of State Match Play of that year.  There will no longer be a team selected by points. 

Brooks / Park Cup (every year)

Scratch

Total of twelve (12) players qualify each year. Each player must play in at least three events to qualify. Points are listed on the website. The top 11 from the Scratch Division points list plus the Senior Blue Scratch Player of the Year qualify. Please see the website tournament schedule for exact dates of point’s cutoff.

Haase Whalen Cup Matches (every year)

Net    

Total of twelve (12) players qualify each year. Each player must play in at least three events to qualify. Points are listed on the website.  The top 9 from the Net Division points plus the Senior Blue Net Player of the Year and the Top Scratch and Net Silver player qualify. Please see the website tournament schedule for exact dates of point’s cutoff.

 

 Cobb – Whalen Cup 

(every 2 years alternating sites North - South)

 Location

  • The North and South shall rotate responsibility for the Cobb – Whalen Cup. The competition will be held in even-numbered years. NNGA will host in years 2020, 2024, etc. and the SNGA will host in 2018, 2022, etc.

 Eligibility:

  • Open to “Net” members of the NNGA and SNGA.
  • Each association shall determine the method of selection from their respective Players’ Points List. The association has the option of choosing a cut-off point that will allow sufficient time to schedule travel, purchase uniforms, etc.

 Field size: 24 players

  • 12 NNGA
  • 12 SNGA

 Exempt Players:

  • N/A

 Entry Fee:

  • Players’ expenses may be subsidized at the discretion of the individual association. Expenses for the event will be borne by the host association. The NSGA will help in the form of $2,000 to the hosting association only.

 Format:

  • Three competition match play rounds consisting of:
    • Four-ball  (100% course HCP played off the low player in pairings)
    • A modified alternate shot where both team members hit from the tee, select the preferred tee shot, and the team member whose shot was not selected plays the next shot.  The team members then alternate shots until the ball is holed. (50% of combined team course HCP played off lowest team HCP)
    • Singles (100% course HCP played off lowest player of the match)
    • Scoring will be Ryder/Walker Cup format.
      • Team win receives one  (1) point
      • Team halve receives one half (1/2) point.
      • Team loss receives zero (0) points

Player of the Year

Scratch

The top point earner for the Scratch division is awarded Player of the Year. POY points are listed on the website. Please see the website tournament schedule for exact dates of point’s cutoff.

Net

The top point's earner for the Net division is awarded Player of the Year. POY points are listed on the website. Please see the website tournament schedule for exact dates of point’s cutoff.

Senior Events and Points

 Nevada State Senior Amateur Championship

 Location

  • The North and South shall rotate responsibility for the Senior Amateur Championship. Championship competitions will be conducted by the NNGA and SNGA alternating each year. NNGA will host in even-numbered years and the SNGA in odd-numbered years.

 Eligibility:

  • Open to all male members of the NNGA and SNGA who have achieved the age of 50 on or before the 1st day of competition.

 Field size:

 ·         60 players

  • 30 Senior players – age 50+
  • 30 Silver players – age 60+

 Exempt Players:

  • Top 2 players from each division of the previous years’ Championship
  • The remaining players will be split between associations, to be determined by however the association shall choose. (Points race, qualifying, tournament winners, etc.)
  • Notes
    • All exempt players must submit an entry 45 days prior to the championship.
    • Each association has until 30 days prior to the championship to fill their allocated spots.
    • During the last 30 days, all remaining spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

 

  Lou Oliver Cup 

(every 2 years alternating sites North - South)

 Location

  • The North and South shall rotate responsibility for the Cobb – Whalen Cup. The competition will be held in odd-numbered years. NNGA will host in years 2019, 2023, etc. and the SNGA will host in 2021, 2025, etc.

 Eligibility:

  • Open to “Senior” members of the NNGA and SNGA.
  • Each association shall determine the method of selection from their respective Players’ Points List. The association has the option of choosing a cut-off point that will allow sufficient time to schedule travel, purchase uniforms, etc.

 Field size: 24 players

  • 12 NNGA – 3 Senior Scratch Players, 3 Senior Net Players, 3 Silver Scratch Players and 3 Silver Net Players.
  • 12 SNGA – 3 Senior Scratch Players, 3 Senior Net Players, 3 Silver Scratch Players and 3 Silver Net Players.

Senior Player of the Year

Blue Scratch, Blue Net, Senior Silver Net, Senior Silver Scratch

The top point’s earner from each division is awarded Player of the Year.
